Michel Ponsard, a partner specialising in competition law, was interviewed by journalist Sylvie Guyony about the competitive risk that the Covéa-PartnerRe merger represents.
“A merger had already been envisaged in 2020 and stopped because of the pandemic. According to the sources, this resulted in a compensation of nearly 100 million euros. Apart from the possible indemnities linked to this failure, the main risk lies in the existing cooperation between Covéa and Exor on asset management and the danger that the parties, in the framework of their memorandum of understanding, anticipate its implementation before obtaining the authorisation of the competition authorities” explains Michel Ponsard.
